Art Omi, a not-for-profit arts center with a 120-acre sculpture and architecture park and gallery, offers residency programs for international artists, writers, translators, musicians, architects and dancers. Art Omi believes that exposure to internationally diverse creative voices fosters acceptance and respect, raises awareness, inspires innovation, and ignites change. Art Omi forms community with creative expression as its common denominator for artists and the public to affirm the transformative quality of art.
Residencies
Art Omi has five distinct residency programs: Art Omi: Architecture, Art Omi: Artists, Art Omi: Dance, Art Omi: Music, and Art Omi: Writers. Through a competitive jury process, residents are chosen, invited to attend at no cost to themselves, except travel. Abundant, catered meals and comfortable, beautiful lodgings are provided in a scenic location in Columbia County, New York. About The Residencies
Art Omi: Architecture is the first residency program of its kind in the nation, inviting 10 early- to mid-career architects from around the world to develop their work during a two week residency on Art Omi's campus in June. Art Omi: Architecture aims to nurture experimentation at the intersection of architecture, art and landscape.
Art Omi: Artists invites artists from around the world, representing a wide diversity of artistic styles and practices, to gather for four weeks each summer to experiment, collaborate and share ideas. Concentrated time for creative work is balanced with the stimulation of cultural exchange and critical appraisal.
Art Omi: Dance brings together ten accomplished dance artists from around the world for two and a half weeks of creative exchange in late July. Residents experience each other’s creative process and the freedom to play in this collaborative residency program.
Art Omi: Music invites 12–15 musicians, composers, and sound-makers of all kinds from around the globe to come together for two and a half weeks in August for a uniquely collaborative music-making residency.
Art Omi: Writers hosts authors and translators for two weeks to one month throughout the spring and fall. The program’s strong international emphasis provides exposure for global literary voices and reflects the spirit of cultural exchange that is essential to Art Omi’s mission.
Art Omi: Writers is seeking proposals from Korean-language translators for a funded three-week residency in fall 2026 in partnership with the Literature Translation Institute of Korea. This opportunity is expressly for those who are translating Korean literature into English, and will take place during our Fall 1 Session, Thursday, September 24–Thursday, October 15, 2026. Exact details regarding the stipend and travel support will be available when the selected candidate is notified in spring 2026.
Candidates must submit the following:
1. A CV or resume
2. A one-page statement regarding the project to be undertaken at Art Omi, including a brief biographical sketch of the author whose work will be translated
3. A 10-page translation work sample (preferably of the proposed project, but a sample from an unrelated project is also fine)

Art Omi: Writers is now seeking proposals for Translation Lab 2026, a 12-day special, intensive residency for five collaborating writer-translator teams in the fall of 2026.
Art Omi will host five translators of any language INTO English, along with the writers whose work is being translated, in New York's Hudson Valley for 12 days. All text-based projects—fiction, creative nonfiction, theater, film, poetry, etc.—are eligible.
This focused residency will provide an integral stage of refinement, allowing translators to dialogue with the writers about text-specific questions. It will also serve as an essential community-builder for English-language translators who are working to increase the amount of international literature available to English-language readers.
The dates for Translation Lab 2026 are September 9-21, 2026. Art Omi provides airfare, local car transportation, and a small honorarium. Residents accepted into Translation Lab are responsible for their own train transportation from New York City to the Art Omi campus. Please note: accepted applicants must be available for the duration of the Translation Lab. Late arrivals and early departures are NOT possible. Please do not submit a proposal unless both parties involved (translator and writer) are available for all dates. Please also ensure both parties are eligible to travel to the United States at the time of the application.
Art Omi will be accepting applications for participation until March 20, 2026. Translators, writers, editors, and agents can submit an application.
Each application must include a Project Proposal and a Work Sample.
1. The Project Proposal should be no more than three pages and provide the following information:
- Names of the translator and writer applying, as well as contact information (physical address, email, and phone number) and the original language of the text. These details should be provided at the very top of the proposal.
- Brief biographical sketches for the translator and writer.
- A description of the proposed project, including details about how you envision structuring your working time together.
- Publishing status of the proposed project. (Projects that do not yet have a publisher are eligible.)
2. The Work Sample must be 10-15 pages (12 pt font, double-spaced) of an English translation by the translator applying. It is preferred that the sample be from the proposed project; however, if this is not possible, please provide another translation work sample.
